Ajmer

Ajmer is a destination in Rajasthan state of India. It is 120 km west of Jaipur and founded by the great Raja Prithviraj Chauhan in the 7th century. It is known for the Dargah of Khwaja Mu'in-ud-din Chisti and Ana Sagar Lake. Being a great pilgrimage site, it is visited by many pilgrims either they are Hindus or Muslims. For Muslims, the Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti and for Hindus Pushkar fair has great significance. Pushkar is just 11 km away from Ajmer and is popular for its fair which held normally in October/Novemeber. Pushkar is the abode of Lord Brahma. Another sacred place for Hindus is Pushkar Lake. During the month of Kartik, i.e. October/November, a large number of pilgrims gather there to take a holy dip in this sacred lake.

Dargah of Khawaja Moin-Ud-Din- Chisti

This place has great importance in Muslims. It is a shrine of a medieval Sufi saint who came to India from Persia in 1192. Humayun started the construction of this shrine and completed it perfectly but the gate of the shrine was added by the Nizam of Hyderabad. The saint's tomb is concealed in a raised marble dome having a silver platform. It is located in the center of the second court of the shrine.

Adhai Din Ka Jhopda

Adhai Din Ka Jhopda was once a Sanskrit college that was destroyed by the Mohammad Gauri. It was then converted into a mosque. In converting it in a mosque, it takes only two and a half days, so the name is placed after its construction time. It is one of the oldest mosque in India. It was built in 1193 AD and is a great example of Indo-Muslim architecture.

The Museum

The Museum was once the royal residence of great Emperor Akbar. It houses a rich repository of the Mughal and Rajput armors. Many exquisite sculptures are also placed there.
